Meaning (意味)

真実を隠している、嘘をついている

economicalには節約の意味があります。be economical with moneyなら「お金を節約している」、be economical with timeなら「時間を節約している」という意味です。

「節約」は「効率よく省く」という意味ですから、be economical with the truthと言えば「真実を効率よく省く」ということになり、「隠す」「嘘をつく」という意味になるのです。
